Undergraduate Students Batch 2010 Won Favorite Prototype at National Maritime Innovation Contest (LOKARINA) 2012 SAMPAN 6

Prototype of Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) which will be useful for detecting subsea pipeline leak, was a contested concept of an Ocean Engineering Undergraduate Student Team consisted of Mochammad Imron, Muhammad Ikhsan Dwianto dan Bisma Alfian at National Maritime Innovation Contest (Lokarina) Sampan 6 ITS 2012, held at the Nasdec Building, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November on Friday-Saturday, March 30-31, 2012. In the contest. they won the ‘Favorite Prototype’ title.

The ROV made by them was equipped with 4-ballasts system that allowed the ROV’s balance system. In addition for balance system, these ballasts were useful as a floating system during equipment changing. In addition to the ballast system, this ROV was also equipped with a dynamic maneuver system. By using 8 dynamos which can move in a two-way direction, this ROV had more than 6 kinds of motions. The amount of motion was very useful in surveying the subsea pipeline leaks.

The winner of this innovation contest organized by the Student Association of Naval Architecture at ITS received a cash prize of Rp 500,000,-. The contest, passed 20 finalists, which consisted of a total of eight teams from the ITS, 1 team from ITB, 1 team from UGM, 1 team from from UI, 1 team from of IPB, 3 teams from UB, 3 teams from UNDIP and 2 teams from UNY. The juries were consisted of professors from ITS.

Undergraduate Student Team Won National Innovation Contest

Ocean wave power generator designed by three Ocean Engineering students (Arifian Agusta, Gilang Muhammad Gemilang, and Ilman Kurniadi), Institut Teknologi Bandung was awarded the winner of National Innovation Contest held at Campus Center, Institut Teknologi Bandung on Saturday, February 5, 2011.

Ocean wave power generator relies on movement of the magnets in the tube of a buoy due to successive waves movement. The buoys, which made watertight by Arifian Agusta, Gilang Muhammad Gemilang, and Ilman Kurniadi (Ocean Engineering students class of 2008), was made by a 40 cm x 40 cm x 7 cm plastic box. “The electricity that was collected at each buoy will be transmitted through a cable to the coastal area. “We want to help fisherman with the electricity,” said Gilang.

The winners of the contest that was held by Mechanical Engineering Students Association – ITB gets a prize money of Rp 12.5 million.

The contest which held on February 4 and 5, 2011 at the East Wing of Campus Center ITB resulted in 20 finalists. As many as 8 teams from ITS, 7 teams from ITB, 3 teams from UGM, and 1 team from University of Indonesia and University of Brawijaya, Malang. A panel of judges composed of Prof. Djoko Suharto of Mechanical Engineering ITB, Imam Damar Djati of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design ITB, Ruswanto Nomo of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Institute ITB, and Lina Rahayu Suardi of Regional Environmental Management Agency of West Java.
