Open Session of ITB’s 58th Anniversary, Head of ITB Geophysical Engineering Study Program Gives Scientific Oration

Bandung – On Thursday (02/03/17), the Bandung Institute of Technology commemorated its 58th Anniversary. Reflecting on existing history, Technische Hoogeschool te Bandoeng which was the forerunner of ITB was founded on July 3 1920 as the first high school in the Dutch East Indies. Only later, around 38 years after that, the Indonesian Government inaugurated the establishment of the Bandung Institute of Technology on March 2 1959. The series of celebrations for the 58th Anniversary opened with an ITB open session which took place in the ITB West Hall (02/03) followed by family friendly sports large and ITB partners (04/03), Work Exhibition and Faculty Open House (05/03) and closed with the West Aula Jazz #4 activity (10/03).

The open session which was held last Thursday (02/03) contained two main agendas, namely the awarding of awards to the ITB community and a scientific oration by Dr. Andri Dian Nugraha, S.Si., M.Si who is the Head of the ITB Geophysical Engineering Undergraduate Study Program. In the ITB Open Session, the series of events began with remarks by Prof. Indratmo Soekarno as Chair of the ITB Academic Senate. Following were remarks by the Chair of the ITB Board of Trustees, Betti Alisjahbana. The final speech was given by the Chancellor of the Bandung Institute of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA.

In his scientific oration, Dr. Andri Dian Nugraha, S.Si., M.Si  delivered a scientific speech entitled “3D Seismic Tomography for Imaging Subsurface Structures in Active Tectonic Zones and Geothermal Energy Exploration” which contained a brief explanation about Tomography technology for the benefit of providing environmentally friendly renewable energy and disaster mitigation. Quoted from the ITB News page, at the end of the Open Session, ITB awarded awards to lecturers from various fields (teaching, research, innovation, and institutional development) for the real contributions they made.
