Guest Lecture from Jay Wellik (USGS/USAID-VDAP) March 30 2016: Models for Predicting Eruptions of Long Dead Volcanoes

The Geophysical Engineering Study Program, FTTM, ITB presented a Guest Lecture from USGS/USAID-Volcano Disaster Assistance Program (VDAP)  namely Jay Wellik on “Models for Predicting Eruptions on Long Dead Mountains”. He explained the big questions in volcano monitoring, namely: 1. Age of the volcano 2. Type of volcano 3. Time of the last eruption 4. History of previous eruptions 5. Monitoring network 6. Existence and size of the hydrothermal system 7. Charcteristic magma characteristics (Volume, petrology , viscosity, gas composition)
