ITB Geophysical Engineering Successfully Holds 2017 Geo-Electromagnetic (Geo-EM) Workshop
Bandung – The Bandung Institute of Technology Geophysical Engineering study program successfully held the first edition of the Geo Electromagnetic (Geo-EM) workshop on 20-24 February 2017. The Geo-EM Workshop is an international platform that aims to bring together academics, researchers and students involved in the field of Geo-Electromagnetics. This event, which was held in the ITB Ganesha area, also invited a number of geo-electromagnetic experts from all over the world.
The 2017 Geo-EM workshop series opened on Monday (20/02/2017) with a short lecture delivered by Prof. Doug W Oldenburg (University of British Columbia). In his short lecture entitled “DISC (Distinguished Instructor Short Course) SEG Geophysical Electromagnetic: Fundamentals and Application”, Prof. Doug W Oldenburg explains the basic principles of the Geo-electromagnetic method and its applications. The 2017 Geo-EM Workshop was officially opened by Dr.rer.nat. Widodo, S.T., M.T. as chief executive on Tuesday (21/02/2017) and continued with presentations from experts divided into several sessions until Thursday (23/02/2017). The following are the names of speakers who gave presentations at the 2017 Geo-EM workshop:
- Prof. Dr. Bülent Tezkan ( Universität zu Köln, Germany), “Unmanned system (Aero Electromagnetic) and Geoelectric Method”
- Prof. Dr. Ir. Djoko Santoso, M.Sc. ( Institut Teknologi Bandung , Indonesia), “Opportunity Earth Resources Exploration using Geophysics Method in Indonesia”
- Prof.Doug W Oldenburg ( University of British Columbia), “Three-Dimensional Magnetotelluric Inversion & Electromagnetic Inversion”
- Prof. Dr. Weerachai Siripunvarapon ( Mahindol University, Thailand), “Three-Dimensional Magnetotelluric Inversion & Electromagnetic Inversion”
- Prof. Dr. Satria Bijaksana ( Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia), “Rock Magnetic Methods and Their Application in Environmental Studies”
- Prof. Dr. Yuguo Li ( Ocean University of China, China), “Control Source Marine Electromagnetic & Mud Volcano and Groundwater Exploration”
- Dr. rer. nat. Amir Haroon (Universität zu Köln, Germany), “Control Source Marine Electromagnetic & Mud Volcano and Groundwater Exploration”
- Dr. Kurt Strack (President Director KMS), “Control Source Marine Electromagnetic & Mud Volcano and Groundwater Exploration”
In the main agenda, there were at least two speakers from the ITB Geophysical Engineering study program. They are Prof. Dr. Ir. Djoko Santoso, M.Sc. with material entitled “Opportunity Earth Resources Exploration using Geophysics Method in Indonesia” and Prof. Dr. Satria Bijaksana with material entitled “Rock Magnetic Methods and Their Application in Environmental Studies”.
The 2017 Geo Electromagnetic Workshop series of events closed on Friday (24/02/2017) with a Fieldtrip activity. In general, the Geo-EM Workshop with the theme “Development and Application of Geolectric & Electromagnetic Methods and Rock Magnetic for Earth Resources Exploration”aims to popularize the development and application of Geoelectricity and Electromagnetics in order to support the fulfillment of humanity’s sustainable energy needs, environmental conservation, and minimize victims of natural disasters in Indonesia.
