Closer to Geophysics Engineering Study Program

In January 2021, ITB held an Open House event which introduced the Faculty/School and study programs which are part of the national strategy study program. In continuation with the Open House event, the Education Directorate of the Bandung Institute of Technology again held an event to introduce more national strategy study programs on Wednesday, May 19 2021. This event, which was carried out boldly with a zoom webinar, was broadcast via the YouTube channel and invited delegates from prospective students from various high schools in Indonesia.

The study program introduction event was attended by various study programs, one of which was the Geophysical Engineering study program, Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering (FTTM) ITB. The explanation of the Geophysical Engineering study program begins with playing a study program video which is then continued with a presentation of the study program by the Geophysical Engineering lecturer, Faridz Nizar Ahmady, S.T., M.T. In his presentation, he explained the science and techniques of geophysics as well as the scope studied, namely science that studies the earth (especially subsurface structures) using physical principles. Geophysical science and engineering certainly cannot be separated from various basic sciences such as physics, mathematics, geology, computing and instrumentation. These scientific basics  really support and help a geophysicist to study and understand the dynamics that occur beneath the earth.

Apart from that, the speaker, Mr. Faridz Nizar, also explained the job prospects in the field of geophysics which are quite broad, namely in the field of exploration (oil and gas, mining, geothermal), the field of geotechnics, the field of seismology, and other practitioners including the field of big data and machine learning related to geophysics. At the end of the presentation, several testimonials from alumni who have worked in industry were also played.
