Collaboration between Study Programs for the Success of the 2021 MBKM Program

In the 2021 MBKM program, the Geophysical Engineering Study Program collaborates with several study programs such as Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering. As conveyed by the Head of the MBKM Task Force Dr. Fatkhan, that the title of the 2021 MBKM Program proposed is Integrated Geoscience Learning for the Development of Environmentally Friendly Energy Technology and Mitigation of Earth Disasters. The implementation of this program is of course supported by collaboration between study programs at the Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering and the Faculty of Earth Science and Technology, Bandung Institute of Technology.

The Independent Learning and Independent Campus Program (MBKM) is a program that aims to provide and encourage students to master various disciplines. This process is based on a collaborative attitude and spirit and problem solving by stakeholders in higher education. MBKM’s activities are in line with the ITB Renip 2020 – 2025 which aims to build creative collaboration from various scientific disciplines, both at ITB and with other parties.

The application for the MBKM program is based on several things that are challenges in the field of Geophysics, including (1) The problem of depletion of fossil energy reserves in the future, accompanied by the increasingly difficult search for energy sources, especially oil and natural gas, while energy needs will continue to increase . Innovation is needed in the development of new science and technology in geophysics, (2) Participation in environmental problems, such as CO2 exhaust gas (Carbon Capture Utility & Storage CCUS), (3) It is necessary to increase participation in the mitigation of earth disasters, such as earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, tsunamis and so on, and (4) Must have higher quality undergraduate graduates, so that they are able to compete nationally and globally. So it is hoped that graduates will not only work domestically, but can work abroad in their fields.

Apart from this, we also pay attention to the gap that occurs in Geophysical Engineering students in general, namely the lack of ability to communicate, negotiate, plan and/or design a problem. For this reason, it is necessary to increase students’ insight and entrepreneurial skills through the MBKM 2021 program.

There are 3 MBKM 2021 sub-programs proposed, namely:

1. Research and Study Stays for Students (IKU 1, IKU 2, IKU 6)

2. Internship Program in Industry and Research Institutes (IKU 1, IKU 2, IKU 6, IKU 7)

3. Field Lecture Program in Answering Local Problems (IKU 1, IKU 2, IKU 6, IKU 7)

The internship programs at government and research agencies that have been running so far are the BMKG, LIPI and the Geology Agency. Apart from that, the collaboration with industry is PT. Elnusa (seismic data acquisition in sub volcanic field), Pertamina EP, PGE (Pertamina Geothermal Energy) and Aneka Tambang.
