Geophysics Engineering Field Lecture 2021

Field lectures are part of the academic process that must be attended by students of the Bachelor of Geophysics Engineering, Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering (FTTM) ITB. Field lecture activities will provide experience for each student to see firsthand geological features and practice measuring several geophysical equipment. Prior to the pandemic, field lectures at the Geophysics Engineering Study Program were routinely held in Karanggulung, Kebumen, Central Java for 14 days.

However, during the pandemic conditions and the implementation of face-to-face classes was limited, this year’s field lecture activities were carried out in a hybrid manner for 11 days (28 September – 9 October 2021). For 6 lecturing activities carried out boldly and 5 days attractively. Lectures were attractively conducted in the Lembang Fault area, West Java while still observing health protocols. Each participant is required to undergo a PCR test 2 days before the day of departure to the field.

The field lecture activities were attractively divided into two learning objects, namely observing geological features in the Lembang Fault area (4 – 5 October 2021) and taking measurements using geophysical equipment on 6 – 9 October 2021.

In 2021, field lecture activities are synergized with PKKM Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka Geophysics Engineering Study Program. Thus, in addition to conducting geological surveys and geophysical measurements on the Lembang Fault, the students also conducted socialization and education on handling earthquake hazards to the community around the Lembang Fault.
