ITB’s Oceanography Achievements at PIT ISOI 2025: Six Best Presenter Nominations Out of Ten Awards<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Faculty of Earth Sciences and Technology (FITB) of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) has once again achieved impressive achievements in the national scientific arena.<\/span><\/span> At the 21st Annual Scientific Meeting of the Indonesian Oceanology Scholars Association (PIT ISOI), held on October 8\u20139, 2025, at the Muladi Dome Building, Diponegoro University, Semarang, delegates from the FITB Oceanography Study Program won six out of ten Best Presenter nominations.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This achievement further confirms the position of the ITB Oceanography Study Program as one of the centers of excellence in marine research in Indonesia, with significant contributions to the development of national marine science and technology.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Strategic Forum for Indonesian Marine Food Security<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n
This year’s ISOI PIT raised a theme that is very relevant to Indonesia’s condition as a maritime nation: “The Strategic Role of ISOI in Realizing Food Security from the Sea and Coast.” The choice of this theme reflects the urgency of utilizing marine resources sustainably to support national food security.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This prestigious event presented keynote speakers from various strategic institutions, including the Indonesian Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, M.M., the Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Arif Havas Oegroseno, and Dr. Agus Santoso, Director of the CLIVAR International Project Office from the Ocean University of China which is also affiliated with UNSW Australia.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
Through this annual scientific forum, ISOI becomes a strategic platform for academics, researchers, practitioners, and marine observers to exchange information and the latest research results in the field of Indonesian oceanography and marine affairs.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
High-Quality Research on a Wide Range of Topics<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
The ITB Oceanography Study Program sent several delegates to present their latest research findings spanning various oceanographic fields.<\/span><\/span> The diversity of research topics presented demonstrated the broad scope of research conducted by the FITB Oceanography academic community.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Dr. Eng.<\/span><\/span> Faruq Khadami, one of the lecturers nominated for Best Presenter, strengthened the representation of educators at this scientific forum.<\/span><\/span> His presence demonstrated that ITB Oceanography Study Program lecturers not only excel in teaching but also actively conduct high-quality research.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Meanwhile, five students also managed to achieve success by winning the Best Student Presenter nomination:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Feti Fitriyani presented research on “Sea Surface Temperature Changes during the Holocene in the Makassar Strait through Mg\/Ca Analysis of Marine Sediment Cores.”<\/span><\/span> This research used a paleoceanographic approach to understand the dynamics of past climate change, which can provide important insights for future climate change projections.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n
Siti Haerunnisa presented research on “Sea Surface Chlorophyll-a Variations Based on CMIP6 Climate Models in SSP1-2.6 and SSP5-8.5 Scenarios in the Southern Waters of Java.”<\/span><\/span> This research is highly relevant to understanding the impacts of climate change on marine primary productivity, which is the basis of the marine food chain.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n
Nadia Salsabila Afridayanti conducted research on “The Effect of Groynes on Shoreline Change Using a One-Dimensional Model in Nusa Dua, Bali.”<\/span><\/span> This research provides an important contribution to coastal area management, particularly in tourism areas vulnerable to coastal erosion.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Machine Learning Innovation in Marine Research<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Two other students presented research utilizing machine learning technology, demonstrating that the ITB Oceanography Study Program not only masters conventional marine science but also adopts the latest technology in its research.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Muhammad Izhar Muharam presented “Sea Surface Temperature Forecasting and Marine Heatwaves in the Southeastern Tropical Indian Ocean Using Machine Learning Methods.”<\/span><\/span> This research is crucial given the increasing frequency of marine heatwaves and their significant impact on marine ecosystems.<\/span><\/span> Sabitha Chairunnisa Syahrial presented her research, “Spatial Mapping of Seaweed Habitats Using Satellite-Based Machine Learning in the Coastal Area of \u200b\u200bBodae Village (2024).”<\/span><\/span> This research provides an innovative method for mapping marine habitats that can support the development of sustainable seaweed cultivation.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Real Contribution to the Indonesian Sea<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

The ITB Oceanography delegation’s participation in PIT ISOI 2025 not only provided a platform for presenting the latest research results but also a tangible contribution to strengthening the national scientific network in the marine field.<\/span><\/span> The achievement of six Best Presenter nominations out of ten available awards demonstrates the quality of research and the dedication of the FITB Oceanography academic community in supporting sustainable marine resource management and realizing food security from Indonesia’s seas and coasts.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
This achievement also demonstrates that ITB’s investment in developing the Oceanography Study Program has yielded extraordinary results.<\/span><\/span> By continuing to produce high-quality research relevant to the nation’s needs, FITB ITB remains committed to becoming a center of excellence in earth science and technology, particularly in the fields of oceanography and marine science.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
